With attempts to pass a federal measure legalizing online poker now deemed a failure, the Nevada Assembly Bill 5 will now look to establish multi-state compacts.

Nevada become the first state to legalize Web poker in late 2011.  Previous language forbid the state from pursuing agreements with other US states until federal legislation went into effect.  Attempts to do so late in 2012 failed however and now the Silver State is looking to remove the federal mandate.

The proposed bill adds language allowing for the governor, on behalf of the state, to enter into agreements with other states.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie could sign a bill legalizing all forms of Internet gambling that would immediately allow his state to enter into compacts.
