New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Signs Atlantic City Tourism Bill Into Law
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has his pen out and began signing various bills related to the gambling sector into law this week. Yesterday, Christie signed a measure that would make New Jersey only the second state to offer exchange wagering for its horse racing industry.
Early Tuesday the Governor enacted bills that will create a state-run Tourism District in the Atlantic City while easing casino regulations.
Still awaiting a signature is a bill that would ultimately legalize most forms of online gambling in the state including poker and sports betting.
“We have to watch closely as he’s definitely in a signing type of mood over the last two days,” said Payton O’Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.
Christie is yet to indicate whether he would veto such a bill.
"The long-term revitalization of Atlantic City begins today, and we are proud to be a partner in that effort," said Bob Griffin, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey.
Atlantic City casinos would also be put in charge of operating the Internet gambling ventures.
