New Jersey Residents Cry Foul as Another Local Bookie Taken Down
Yet another local bookie has been implicated in what authorities describe as a “Mafia-tied multi-state illegal sports betting operation”.
A Park Ridge man, Mark Moschella, was one of eight charged with illegal gambling and loansharking. The business itself was operated out of Rockland County, New York with the investigation overseen by law enforcement in that county.
Gambling911.com first reported the bookie arrests on Friday as part of “Operation Rock Bottom”.
“Illegal gambling has always been the fuel that drives organized crime because of the huge profits it generates, which are of ten used to fund other forms of criminal activity, including drug trafficking and prostitution,” said Rockland County District Attorney Zugibe. “Illegal gambling is not a victimless crime.”
New Jersey residents commenting on the Newark Star Ledger website believe law enforcement is getting out of hand with their ongoing assault on the world’s second oldest profession.
Slow Poke writes: “Anybody see hypocrisy here? The state, with the lottery and casinos, charging someone with gambling? Then N.J. will put them in prison at taxpayers expense. And how much did this months' long investigation cost?”
Bulldog0930 writes: “Big Frigging deal.. kids o ding all over the place and this is what they focus on.”
In a world where ISIS, home grown meat machete wielding terrorists and murderous escaped convicts roam free with more sinister intentions, one NJ resident couldn’t help but provide a bit of sarcasm directed at this latest spate of arrests.
“Gee, I feel so much safer now.”
