The fabulous Palms Casino is preparing to open a brand new state-of-the-art sportsbook.

“First and foremost, it’s going to be improved aesthetically,” new hotel President Joe Magliarditi said during an interview with Vegas Inc at the Palms executive offices last week. “It will look like a complete new book. … It’s the first big step where we say, ‘Here are the beginnings of the changes at the Palms.’ Let’s face it, the sports book was pretty beat up. It was hard to even see the TV screens. Now we’ll see state-of-the-art video technology, what you see every time Cantor does a book. “

The new sportsbook is expected to open some time in May (2012) with a target date around May 3, just in time to take wagers on the Kentucky Derby.  Hand-held mobile betting devices, the hallmark of Cantor Gaming, will be provided to sports bettors as well.

Magliarditi is planning to invest in five major upgrades to the 10-year-old property by year’s end.

The current poker room will also be relocated to make way for a brand new sportsbook-linked bar called Tonic.
