Phil Ivey Now Nearing WSOP November Nine
Just when we thought poker star Phil Ivey might be on his way out, this happened:
Phil Ivey opened for 500,000 and Antoine Saout called from the small blind. Saout folded and Ivey won the pot with 700,000. He's up to 6,540,000.
With only 14 players left in the field at 6:15 pm PST, the 2009 World Series of Poker looks like it will conclude well before midnight with the final nine (known as the November Nine) playing at the final table in four more months.
Ivey's star power would bring quite a boost to the event.
At press time he was sitting around 7 million and within striking distance of entering the top nine once again after starting in the top 3 Wednesday.
Steven Begleiter now reigned at the top of the leader board for the first time. Darvin Moon and Billy Kopp each slipped a few notches from the number one and number two positions. Eric Buchman was also making some serious headway.
