Phil Mickelson, Billy Walters ‘Insider Trading’ Probe Continues
An FBI and SEC investigation is ongoing as to whether golfer Phil Mickelson received insider trading tips from Nevada-based professional sports bettor Billy Walters.
A former chairman of Dean Foods Co. is alleged to have leaked information to Walters, who in turn provided said information to Mickelson. The investigation was first reported by Gambling911.com in Ma of last year.
At the time, authorities were also looking into any potential role played by billionaire corporate raider Carl Icahn, who GOP frontrunner Donald Trump mentioned the other evening as someone he might like to have as part of his cabinet if elected US President.
The Securities and Exchange Commission and the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office were looking into whether Davis leaked information on his company’s 2012 announcement of a spinoff of its White Wave Foods division. Mr. Davis unexpectedly resigned Friday from the Dallas-based dairy company.
A lawyer representing Mr. Mickelson said “Phil has done absolutely nothing wrong. He has been cooperating with the investigation.”
Walters earlier denied any wrongdoing.
