Playboy Casino and Poker Room Shuts Down
In a sign of the troubling economic times, the Playboy Casino and Poker site has shut its doors.
Playboy Gaming, the parent company of Playboy Poker sent out an email today notifying customers that effective January 29th they will no longer be offering their poker room or online casino, SlotsGeek.com reports.
This is the second time the Playboy Casino has failed in so many years.
The casino and poker room first launched in 2007 on the Cryptologic network, but that software provider was forced to exit the US market in October 2006 following passage of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act. The Playboy Casino and Poker Room have never catered to US citizens as a result.
Cryptologic is one of the pioneers in online gambling and trades publicly on the New York Stock Exchange. They recently lost another brand, Omni Casino, to one of their competitors, Playtech. Q3 2008 reports for Crypto show a loss of well over $5 million.
Not all news is bleak for the online gambling software giant however. Cryptologic recently announced the premier of a new three-game lineup that features the legendary Marvel Super Hero, Spider-Man, a new adventure slot game called Dragon Sword, and an enhanced version of Atlantic City Blackjack, one of the company's most popular casino games.
The new games are now available to players at Intercasino.com, and will be live on the sites of other CryptoLogic customers in the near future.
"At CryptoLogic, branded casino games are one of the pillars of our strategy, and today we extend our lead in this highly profitable segment even further," said Brian Hadfield, CryptoLogic's President and CEO. "CryptoLogic's original Spider-Man slot game was one of our most successful games ever, and we have high hopes for these new games, which deliver a truly unique customer experience."
