The primary legislator backing Poker Voters of America lobbying efforts to legalize online poker in the state of California, Senator Rod Wright, has been hit by 8 felony charges including voter fraud, false declaration of candidacy and two counts of perjury.  The Senator was also a scheduled key note speaker for the upcoming 9th Annual European iGaming Congress and Expo

The Expo site proclaims: “Prepare to claim a share of the biggest iGaming market there is and be ready for the roll-out to other states that might follow suit”, referring to Wright’s efforts to pass a measure that would legalize online poker in the state of California.  Those efforts have effectively been quashed.

Just two weeks ago, Gambling911.com reported on how the state of New Jersey should be considered at the forefront of the state movement to legalize online poker and sports betting, warning that Web gambling firms in Europe and elsewhere should exercise caution when it came to California.

It was just two weeks ago that Wright had crafted a sports betting bill for the state based on the New Jersey legislation.

Wright was placed in prison until he could make the requested $45,000 bail.
