Russia Placing Sanctions on Internet Gambling Sites: Mostly From UK
Russia has apparently declared war on Internet gambling.
Though the blacklist was implemented some 16 months ago, it has only expanded dramatically in recent days to include the likes of UK-based sites such as Ladbrokes and William Hill along with a number of other European online wagering firms.
This move comes as the European Union has imposed sanctions on Russia for its annexation of Crimea.
Coincidence?
"The request came straight from the prosecutor office," said Maxim Ksenzov, the deputy head of Russia’s federal telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor, when answering questions from Russia’s TJournal chief editor Nikita Likhachev on Twitter.
"The action was taken following an order issued back in June 2013," Kseonzov explained. However, "the prosecutor did not specify which part of the current regulation the decision is based on."
