The Sands Las Vegas casino property websites were down throughout the day Tuesday following what appeared to be a website hacking.  At one point during the early part of the day it was reported that staff and executive social security numbers were scrolling on the compromised sites.

A message related to Sands Chairperson Sheldon Adelson’s position on Iran’s nuclear program was also displayed on the sites, this according to Allentown’s Morning Call newspaper.

That message read: “Damn A, don’t let your tongue cut your throat. Encouraging the use of weapons of mass destruction, under any conditions, is a crime.”

Adelson had suggested – some say in a ‘tongue-and-cheek” way – that Israel should drop an atomic bomb on Iran.

The “A” in the posted message presumably referred to “Adelson”.

The casino billionaire and outspoken GOP donor has also gone on a crusade to quash efforts in the US that would legalize real money Web gambling.  So far three states have passed laws allowing the activity.

Adelson’s anti-gambling coalition released a new ad on Monday suggesting Internet gambling could be used as a tool for terrorists to funnel money for future 9/11-styled attacks.  This has lead to some speculation that the hacking may have been made to look as if it originated from Iranian operatives but could actually be a concerted effort by online gambling interests to fight back against Adelson.

His properties were likely to lose thousands of dollars in lost reservations as a result of the downtime though the real damage may be in the form of the personal information compromises and how far reaching said damage might be.

“If they (the hackers) got a hold of employee security numbers, it is not out of reason to question whether they also were able to retrieve hotel and casino guest credit card information,” a source tells Gambling911.com.
As of Tuesday evening, the Sands Las Vegas corporate websites featured the message:

The Website is Undergoing Maintenance.  We apologize for any inconvenience. Please check back shortly.

The sites also listed phone numbers for all the Sands properties.
