Terror in Costa Rica as More Earthquake Videos Surface (Video)
San Jose, Costa Rica, is, and has been for over 15 years, the epicenter of online gambling. Up until recently even PokerStars, the world’s largest “real money” online poker firm, maintained a base there.
San Jose is an epicenter for something else.....EARTHQUAKES!
On Wednesday, September 5, 2012, the nation was rocked by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake centered approximately 100 miles Northwest of the capital of San Jose.
Employees who spoke to Gambling911.com admitted it was one of the worse they have ever experienced.
“This is the first time I ran to the door,” admits one male employee of an online poker room who has been through several earthquakes before. “This one was different. Everyone started running.”
A big gambler, who is friends of the Gambling911.com website and has never experienced an earthquake before, had the misfortunate of landing in San Jose the night before. Needless-to-say, his nerves were a little rattled.
For those gamblers worried about whether their money is safe at companies operating from an earthquake prone nation, it should be noted that none of the actual banking for these firms occurs in Costa Rica. Of course, knowing that the country building codes are so rigid, this probably shouldn't be of much concern to begin with.
No major damage was reported within the San Jose area proper and it was business as usual at the online sportsbooks and poker companies. In fact, damage throughout the country was remarkably nominal all things considered. Costa Rican architecture tends to incorporate earthquake proofing with building codes as strict as those found in Japan and California. The mountains…that’s an entirely different story as rockslides are common during these types of events. Some highways were blocked off as a result of the quake.
