*Chinese Hacker Detained for Running Online Gambling Website -

Chinese authorities in the eastern province say they have detained and are prosecuting  Li Jun for co-running an online gambling network that illegally netted many millions of yuan.

Mr. Li served four years for his past hacking activities. He was the creator of the infamous Panda Burns Incense, which involved a cute viral cartoon of a panda holding joss sticks that would attach itself to the victim’s computer screen then secretly steal funds from that individual's online accounts.

The endeavor, Gold Ingot Chess and Card platform, ran for a little more than a year before it was closed down in May 2012.

In some circles, Li is being compared to Edward Snowden, the confessed U.S. National Security Agency leaker.
