Alabama is No Longer Just About College Football
Sure college football is king in Alabama, courtesy of the Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. Auburn stands mostly in the shadows of the mighty Tide but the team has a following that is right up there with any top 20 national team.
Nate Oats was brought over from the Buffalo Bulls to coach Alabama in March of 2019 and, following a 16-15 season, his second year coaching delivered the Tide their first SEC regular-season title since 2022 and the first tournament title since 1991.
At the start of 2023, Alabama was coming in at 50-1 odds to win the 2023 NCAA Men's College Basketball Championship.
"Can’t say enough about our guys, how hard they played on defense, how locked into the scouting report they were," Oats said of his team destroying a solid but stumbling Kentucky squad the first week in January. "I thought Sears was unbelievable. He got in there and made a bunch of tough plays, rebounds. I thought Charles was great on Tshiebwe. And Kentucky’s gonna be alright. They had a bad shooting night. They didn’t shoot it well. Our guys did a good job defensively on them."
The Auburn Tigers are right up there with the Tide this season when it comes to basketball. They were listed at 60-1 odds to win the Championship.
The No. 22 Tigers bounced back from a loss against Georgia to kick off the new year by defeating No. 13 Arkansas. This represented the first ranked-versus-ranked home game for Auburn since last January of 2022 against Kentucky.
Expect both teams to make it deep into the March Madness tournament with many experts talking the Tide among the Final Four.
