Australian Crime Figure Shot Dead

A member Australia’s Barbaro crime family was found shot to death near his car on a Sydney street Monday night.

Authorities confirm the 35-year-old Pasquale Barbaro was shot a number of times and it appeared he had tried to flee for his life.  Just one year ago there was another failed attempt on Barbaro’s life.

The victim was the grandson of Pasquale Barbaro, who was shot dead in 1990.  His uncle, also named Pasquale Barbaro, is serving a 30-year sentence for a massive drug bust.  The family is part of the Australian branch of the Calabrian mafia, which has engaged in illegal gambling and other activities worldwide.

Superintendent David Johnson said at the scene: "He was, I understand, visiting someone in that street. He did have a vehicle there... so clearly he was about to drive away from the scene.”
