A major winter storm was bearing down on a good chunk of the Eastern US Saturday and Sunday January 24 through January 25, 2025.
The prediction market Kalshi began offering snowfall amounts trading for both New York City and Boston Saturday with more than 67% of traders believing 10.5 plus inches of snow will fall in NYC and above 15 inches of snow in Boston.
These cities are forecast for significant snowfall between 8–18″ of snow with major travel disruptions expected.
Boston, MA – heavy snow with wind and drifting; possibly 12–18+″ expected.
New York, NY – 10–16″ of snow.
Philadelphia, PA – 9–13″ of snow.
Baltimore, MD – high snow totals and snow emergency declared.
Washington, D.C. – 6–12″ of snow with travel impacts.
Snow and ice were expected in the Central part of the US and Ohio Valley including Louisville, Nashville, Indianapolis, and the Columbus, Ohio area.
Other regions expected to be impacted included:
Dallas–Fort Worth & North Texas – ice and dangerous travel conditions; some snowfall in northern parts.
Austin, TX – freezing rain and potential overnight black ice.
Oklahoma City, OK – 6–10″ of snow plus sleet/ice.
Atlanta, GA – ice accumulation expected with power/outage risk
