It's what the entire industry was talking about over this past weekend.

Long established BetCRIS has obtained a sports betting license in the state of Arizona.

And, just in time for this year's Super Bowl, the beloved company is expected to begin taking bets some time this week.

BetCRIS today is mostly associated with the Latin American sports gambling market.  Back in the 2000's, BetCRIS was a behemoth in the American offshore sports betting boom.  The company first came into existence in 1986, operating for a decade in the Dominican Republic prior to moving to Costa Rica in the late 1990's.  The name CRIS stands for Costa Rica International Sportsbook.

As of Tuesday, the BetCRIS Arizona website remains bare bones, only featuring a link to its house rules and legal disclaimers.

Longtime industry analyst Jessice Welman appeared just as surprised by this news as everyone else in the gaming industry.

Welman writes:

"When Plannatech announced it received a license in Arizona via a partnership with San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise, the assumption around the industry was that Prime Sportsbook, the brand used by Planantech in New Jersey and Ohio. However, the announcement that Plannatech was receiving a license from the Arizona Department of Gaming did not mention Prime by name. Instead, it will be Betcris going live sometime this week."

She adds that Plannatech is replacing WynnBet as San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise’s sportsbook partner.

But the Arizona regulated market has seen a number of operators come and go over the last two years.  These include recognizable names like TwinSpires, Unibet, Betway, Fubo Sportsbook and Betfred.  Only TwinSpires has had extensive experience in the U.S. gambling market, though that's primarily in horse racing.

BetCRIS, along with Prime Sportsbook and Circa Sports, welcomes all types of action and rarely limits players.
