BetOnline's Dave Mason expressed how surreal this Thanksgiving Day is with the Detroit Lions finally being embraced by gamblers and the public in general.  You only have to look at the line on today's game to see just how far we've come.  Detroit is a -10 point favorite at BetOnline.

It wasn't too long ago there were calls to have the Lions ousted from the turkey day menu.

"It's Time to Remove the Detroit Lions Off Thanksgiving Day Games" was just one of the many headlines we'd see around this time of the year.  And this one was as recent as 2020 when Detroit showed maybe a glimmer of turning things around, much like the renaissance the city itself has experienced in recent years.

No matter how bad they've played in the past, there's no denying the Lions are a Thanksgiving Day treasure.

And while they are the best team in the league right now, Detroit still hasn't had a whole lot to be thankful for on this day.  They've lost seven straight games on Thanksgiving.

How Accurate is The Bears vs. Lions Line?

Sagarin gives us a number of 12.32, that's a few points above the number we were getting on Wednesday.  In other words, there is a pretty obvious underlay.

Detroit is 8-1 Against The Spread in their last nine games.

Chicago has covered in two (one was technically a push) despite losing their last five.

Comparables

There aren't a whole lot of games we've observed over the past three years where the line has moved from above the 10 to below that number.

ISU was a +10.5 to a +9.5 against TCU with the favorite winning and covering big and an underlay of 4 to 5.  The samples are too limited however.

Fun Facts

The Lions surprisingly have lost seven straight games on Thanksgiving Day.

Chicago ended a three-game losing streak in the series last year.

The Bears will play the Lions on the holiday for the 20th time, trailing only Green Bay’s 22 appearances in Detroit on Thanksgiving.

Dogs Win the Day

In other news, this morning's Gambling911.com web traffic was less about football and more about a dog beauty pageant.

Yes, it's true.  People still bet on Fluffy, Fido and other obnoxiously-named pooches.

The National Dog Show aired after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC in all time zones this past Thanksgiving, and dare we say it, the 2023 competition was more compelling than any of the NFL games taking place on this holiday with perhaps the exception of the 49ers-Seahawks late matchup.   The 2022 winner Winston the French Bulldog belongs to an NFL player.
