Can AI Really Help Me Win at Gambling?

There are really few aspects of daily life that Artificial Intelligence (AI) hasn't infiltrated by now. This includes all those porch videos where the wild animals are spooked by Halloween decorations that suddenly come alive. Don't fall for it!

Those are fun, but when it comes to gambling, AI can help us realize an actual profit.

AI and Poker

We view poker as a game of skill.

There are indeed tools now available that incorporate AI into poker coaching platforms.

Poker AI software is always being honed and improved upon, so by the end of 2026, we should see a wealth of new innovations in the field.

DeepStack the groundbreaking AI system developed by researchers at the University of Alberta, Charles University, and Czech Technical University in 2016–2017. It took up tens of thousands of games, learning from each of them, all without any type of human policing. It got to a point where DeepStack was pretty much unbeatable.

DeepStack incorporated these learning aspects:

  • An ability to approximate opponent's "gut feeling".
  • The ability to process complex interdependencies.
  • Recalculating optimal strategy based on prior instances.

The evolution of poker in a world of modern technology

Andrew Kuznetsov, an experienced AI developer who specializes in poker algorithms and strategic decision-making systems, suggests that advances in Artificial Intelligence tools for poker are "literally talking light-years from what we had just a few years ago".

He writes: "I remember the first poker bot that I worked on, a rather clunky, slow, and easily outmaneuvered one. And now I look at what’s available to the normal player, and it’s like watching a Ferrari pull up next to a go-kart. It’s that dramatic of a leap in technology."

AI at this juncture may be more effective in helping the poker room operator, especially online.

But there is some hope for players.

Kuznetsov notes there is something "quintessentially human about poker, some essence of soulfulness that machines haven’t quite nailed".

He suggests that an AI might be able to calculate the odds of a poker play, "but it doesn’t lean back in its chair, light a cigarette, and peer into your soul before deciding whether to call. And feel the tension of the moment in order to make a spur-of-the-second decision based on a hunch. That’s where we still have the edge".

He adds: "Only the best of AI poker will keep improving, as the gap between the human and the machine will keep expanding. But don’t get me wrong—I still believe in the human element."

AI and Sports Betting

AI can do what an oddsmakers can do, only faster and more efficiently.

But that is only in terms of reviewing stats, past performance and other aspects of a team (or teams) that provides an advantage for one or the other.

While AI can detect and infer "sharp" action, today's oddsmakers are able to do this on their own, and likely be more effective in doing so.

A look at the Eagles-Vikings game in Minnesota on Sunday, October 19, 2025, we see tons of action on Philadelphia.  The public is eating the Eagles up, yet oddsmakers were moving the number from Philadelphia -2.5 all the way down to -1.5.

This tells us the sportsbooks do have a strong opinion that Minnesota will cover here, and likely win.  They aren't always right, but the house does always win in the long run.

We asked ChatGPT who they liked to cover in this game. It turns out ChatGPT sides with us.

"The Eagles are slight road favourites, but they’ve shown some cracks recently, and the Vikings have home advantage and motivations. The spread is modest enough that the Vikings covering is a realistic scenario."

We're not sure ChatGPT is taking into account the oddsmakers opinion here, but sharp bettors might be taking this scenario into consideration when - we are assuming at least - they are pounding the Vikings down to +1.5.

AI and Casino Slots

We haven't gotten here yet.

There really aren’t any legitimate AI tools that can help provide an edge when playing slots in a casino.

Ironically, casino operators are heavily invested in Artificial Intelligence when it comes to their games.  But this is more as a means of determining how to better generate profit through such considerations as analyzing real data to uncover which machines generate the most play time, highest revenue per square foot and those machines that are underperforming.

AI and Blackjack

AI can simulate millions of blackjack hands to assist with when to hit, stand, double, or split, as well as how rule changes such as 6-deck vs. single-deck affect your win rate.

A number of tools exist on the market today.  We encourage you to research which are best and be mindful of the latest innovations over the course of any given year.  Conduct searches every three months or so.

RTP Myths and Maths: Why Slot Payouts Are Confusing UK Players

Return-to-Player is usually shown as a single percentage, its purpose being to show how much a slot or casino game pays back over time. The reality is more complex; the number comes from controlled modelling, regulatory limits, and the version an operator decides to run.
