  • Caesars becomes the latest online gambling company to implement the credit card ban

  • Nearly a dozen U.S. states now prohibit credit card deposits for their regulated sportsbook as well

Caesars has become the latest online sportsbook and casino to stop allowing customers to fund their betting accounts using a credit card.

The company follows in the footsteps of market leaders FanDuel and DraftKings, which imposed similar restrictions in recent months.

It also follows statewide trends.  Two years ago, only around a half dozen U.S. states prohibited credit cards for depositing into regulated sports betting sites.  Today that number is about to cross the dozen threshold and climbing.

To date, these U.S. states prohibit use of a credit card to make a deposit for sports wagering:

  • Iowa
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Illinois
  • Virginia (newer ban)
  • Maine (law passed, rolling in 2026)

New York and Connecticut are imposing similar bans.

The restrictions only apply to Caesars U.S. betting platforms.

Customers can still use the following methods to deposit funds into their accounts, a well as receive payouts: Debit cards, ACH or eCheck transfers, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, prepaid Play+ cards, and cash deposits at selected retail locations.

Almost all offshore gambling sites now accept Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrencies in addition to credit cards.  DraftKings recently announced it will be testing out cryptocurrency deposits in select states.

“This change follows months of independent review and careful evaluation that began last fall, during which we closely assessed our deposit processes and customer preferences,” a Caesars spokesperson said, as reported by SBC Americas. “By streamlining our payment options, we are simplifying the deposit experience, improving operational efficiency and reinforcing our commitment to delivering a seamless, customer-first digital experience.”
