We're learning more about the death of handicapping legend Dave Cokin early Tuesday morning.

Las Vegas betting analyst, Scott Spreitzer, tweeted out some further details.

"After 14 months of battling cancer like a true fighter, my great friend of 30  years, ⁦@davecokin
⁩, the “man under the hat, passed away peacefully around 4 am PT today. He lived life his way until the very end. RIP GOAT! You’ll be sorely missed by many."

Sports handicapper and American conservative television and radio host, Wayne Allen Root, learned of his long time friend's death through Gambling911.

"Dave was a consummate professional," Wayne told our own Thomas Somach, who himself worked with Cokin at an Eastern, PA rag called the LVSN.  "We often laughed because he was so opposite of me.  I made a living picking almost exclusively underdogs.  Dave made a living picking exclusively large favorites.  He was a good guy."

Cokin more recently worked at WagerTalk.  He was known for his distinctive tweed cap.

Cokin had quite the following.

AJ Perez tweeted:

"The best part of this job is talking to people who around when you were a kid. My dad always listened to Dave and Lee Pete during the football season back when KDWN had a blowtorch of a signal. We texted a few times over the years for a few betting stories I was working on. RIP"

The Dapper Capper wrote:

"Great capper and even a better man.  RIP Dave, you’ll be sorely missed!"

Dave Hornell tweeted:

"Introduction to 'the cat in the hat' was back in the day during the Stardust Line on KDWN with Lee Pete. Listened every Sunday evening during football season. Followed Dave off and on ever since. He was a great guy. RIP!"
