High Volume Sunday Nights:

The typical trend of high volume SNF games continued this week, with a twist. The Steelers vs Cowboys game was delayed by about 2 hours and this allowed us to keep taking bets on the game. Surprisingly, the Over/Under did not move at all during the delay, even though the field was taking on a lot of water. The under hit with ease and we behind the desk were very surprised we did not take more money on the under. The house needed the Cowboys for a good chunk of change and we were celebrating like crazy when the Cowboys scored on the last 4th down play. The Steelers unders continue to be a money printer, as they play such good redzone defense and run a slow offense. Expect to keep seeing low totals on their games and I am sure the sharps will continue to bet the over thinking that the line is too low.

One Way Action MNF:

One of the most surprising things of the weekend for us was the MNF game. We were low market on the chiefs all day, and still were taking mostly Saints money. This is probably due to bettors thinking the Chiefs offense would struggle without Rice at WR. We ended up with a large position on the game and luckily, for the house, the Chiefs managed to hang on for the cover. The Chiefs remind us a lot of the old patriots, where sharps continue to bet against them because of their inflated lines, yet they continue to get the cash. Overall, it was a great Sunday and Monday night for the house, but not without a sweat!

Games falling on the number:

In both College Football and the NFL, we are noticing a trend of games falling right on the spread and the total. These games are a disaster for sportsbooks because we lose the bets on both sides.  For example, we will have bets on over 46.5 and under 47.5 because of the nature of the line movements. If the game falls on 47, the sportsbooks are gutted. This seems to be happening more and more, most likely due to the numbers getting sharper every single year as more skilled bettors enter the market and help shape the market. To combat this, we are considering moving juice on the games more than moving numbers, which will leave us less exposed to the middle. Pinnacle has been using this model for years and we are starting to believe this might be the best option as the numbers continue to get sharper.

Nuggets and Injury Corner:

  • -Key Injuries:  Injuries are a key in what shapes an NFL line to be what it is on Sunday afternoon. So going forward, we want to point out some key injuries that happened yesterday so that you can use this info.
  • - Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers hurt his ankle, and according to the quarterback and head coach Robert Saleh, it is a low ankle sprain and the 40-year-old signal-caller should be good to go for next week. In the same game, Vikings running back Aaron Jones went down with a hip injury, and will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity.
  • - Dolphins running back De'Von Achane exited Sunday's victory over the Patriots and entered concussion protocol. The Fins took another hit as Jevón Holland is expected to miss some time with a hand injury.
  • - Texans wide receiver Nico Collins hurt his hamstring after a 67-yard TD catch and considered day-to-day, while San Francisco is preparing to be without kicker Jake Moody for some time as he deals with a high ankle injury.

We will have more news on these players in our upcoming weekend preview that drops on Friday, you will not want to miss it!
