Wisconsin Online Sports Betting Bill Remains in Limbo

- (Wisconsin) - Most Wisconsin Tribes Want Evers to Approve an Online Gaming Bill - An online sports betting bill in Wisconsin with bipartisan support is at a legislative standstill. The bill passed the Assembly in late February and in March the bill passed in the state Senate with 12 Democrats and nine Republicans voting in favor of the bill. That earned enough votes for the legislation to be presented to Gov. Tony Evers. But Evers has expressed skepticism and the deadline date for signing it into law appears to have passed. - (California) - California Casinos Brace for Pending Regulations - In early February, Attorney General Rob Bonta announced regulations on California casinos banning traditional card games like blackjack. In response, the state’s cardroom industry filed two lawsuits last week, and on Monday, requested an injunction of relief to hold off any changes until legal matters are settled. According to the Attorney General’s own assessment, the regulations would eliminate at least 50% of cardroom jobs and revenue. (read more from KGET)

Jamie Dimon Says JPMorgan Chase Might Get Into Prediction Markets
JPMorgan $JPM +1.09% Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said his bank is studying a potential entry into prediction markets, while making clear any participation would come with strict limits on what kinds of contracts it would offer.
In a sit-down with CBS Evening News, Dimon told anchor Tony Dokoupil that he could see JPMorgan eventually offering something similar — pointing to Kalshi and Polymarket as examples of the kinds of platforms he had in mind.
"I think for the most part, it's more like gambling," he said. "We're not gonna be in sports. We're not gonna be in politics. There's a bunch of stuff we won't do."
Dimon made clear that insider trading rules would apply just as strictly in this context as anywhere else.
"You cannot use inside information at all for any reason, including prediction markets, People have been gambling forever — every country I've ever been in, people gamble. I'm against it if it's an addiction that ruins your life type thing," he said. "I'm a little bit of a libertarian. You have the right to do what you want, the way you want."

On March 10, The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) raided a Round Rock, Texas poker club co-owned by poker pro and podcaster Doug Polk.
As a recap, the TABC affidavit included the following:
- Texas Penal Code 71.02(a) - ENGAGING IN ORGANIZED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
- Texas Penal Code 34.02 - MONEY LAUNDERING
- Texas Penal Code 47.03 - PROMOTION OF GAMBLING
- Texas Penal Code 47.04 - KEEPING A GAMBLING PLACE
- Texas Penal Code 47.06 - POSSESSION OF GAMBLING DEVICE, EQUIPMENT OR PARAPHERNALIA
Polk came forward to offer an update, saying "this is a very hard video to make".
He discusses the grey area that allows poker clubs to operate in Texas while specifically singling out some rooms in Harris County (home to Houston) that he claims are not playing by the rule.
But the IRS involvement suggests there is more here than meets the eye.
