We now have obtained the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) 22-page warrant pertaining to last week's raid of the Round Rock, Texas poker club, The Lodge Card Club, courtesy of PokerNews.

The mere mortals here at Gambling911.com and those in the poker community who read it believe the situation is bad, real bad, for co-owner Doug Polk.

The TABC alleges suspicious transactions to the tune of $1.35m.

Doug Polk issued another statement on Tuesday claiming he is not involved in any type of money laundering activity.

While us mere mortals think this looks bad, X's AI Grok seems to believe this may all be swept under the rug in no time based on what information is available at the moment.

From Grok:

"The TABC's 22-page warrant (obtained by PokerNews) alleges Lodge violated TX laws on organized crime, money laundering, promoting/keeping gambling places & possessing devices. Probe started June 2024 from suspicious finances; bank records show $1.35M cash deposits via on-site Loomis vault to Tempus Holdings (Polk + partners' 63% co) in Jan-Feb 2025, plus $808k to shared sweeps acct. Undercover TABC agents played poker 6+ times Apr 2025-Jan 2026, noting ops, drinks, security & spotty membership enforcement.

"No charges filed as of Mar 17; assets/banks frozen, Round Rock closed (San Antonio open), 200+ staff impacted. Lodge: fully cooperating, limited details shared. Polk: "witch hunt," no ML knowledge, personally guarantees all player funds/chips safe.

"How bad? Short-term: major disruption (closure, delays). Long-term for Polk/Lodge: high risk if felonies stick (jail/fines/shutdown possible as majority owner), but case looks circumstantial so far—no intent proof, years-long probe with no arrests. Many TX rooms survived similar; could fizzle or settle."

In another emergency episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad, Ben and Mike of PokerNews discuss the latest updates from the situation at The Lodge! Warrant Details $1.35M in "Suspicious" Deposits.

AI is Polk's friend it seems, as ChatGPT also provided a more encouraging outlook.

Best-case scenario (very possible):

  • Regulatory issue tied to alcohol or technical compliance
  • Club reopens after fixes
  • Minimal long-term damage

Likelihood: Moderate to high (given TABC involvement and no arrests)

There are worst case scenarios but these are based primarily on speculative analysis as much of the information currently available per the warrant remains unclear.

While much of the focus thus far has been on high profile co-owner Polk, Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen are the other two co-owners of The Lodge Card Room.

Both purchased a majority stake in the club in 2022.  Neeme has said nothing in regard to the raid.

“Not a lot of information… we try to do everything as above board as possible," is the only public statement issued by Owen so far.

Enforcement actions against Texas poker clubs have been occurring since 2018, but this is the first to impact the Austin area.

Clubs like Prime Social Poker Club were investigated and raided in Harris County starting in 2018.  Harris County is home to the most populous city in Texas, Houston.

Charges were filed but later dismissed or not pursued in certain instances.

Several clubs in the Dallas area were targeted, including locations tied to Texas Card House beginning in 2019.

Authorities argued the clubs were illegal gambling operations, even though they used a “membership + seat fee” model instead of taking rake.

Some of these charges were later dropped as a result of the legal grey area.
