Rooting map

In a semi-scientific study, the marketing team at BetOnline.ag analyzed geotagged X (Twitter) data since April 1 to see which player each state picked to win the 2026 Masters.

The sampling tracked tweets, hashtags and direct keyword phrases about who will win The Masters Tournament this year. For example, "Scottie will win the Masters," "Rory is gonna repeat #Masters" "DeChambeau will finally get it done," and so on.

Whichever player had the most “Masters” predictive tweets in each state subsequently "won" that state. More than 240,000 tweets were tracked in total across the U.S.

The Northwest picks for Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg don't really make a ton of sense, but there are some clear regional/state biases for other golfers.

Jon Rahm is an Arizona State product so he's got the desert's backing.

Xander Schauffele takes California and neighboring Nevada since he's a Cali kid among the favorites.

Justin Thomas gets Alabama, Viktor Hovland lassos the Oklahoma State (Cowboys) and Hawaii native Kurt Kitayama gets the islands.

Scottie Scheffler, of course, is picked by the majority of the U.S.

Here's the state-by-state breakdown:

Scottie Scheffler (20 states) - Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Rory McIlroy (9) - Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island

Bryson DeChambeau (4) - Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia

Cameron Young (3) - Massachusetts, New York, Vermont

Justin Rose (2) - North Carolina, Virginia

Patrick Reed (2) - Georgia, South Carolina

Tommy Fleetwood (2) - Oregon, Washington

Xander Schauffele (2) - California, Nevada

Corey Conners (1) - Michigan

Jon Rahm (1) - Arizona

Justin Thomas (1) - Alabama

Kurt Kitayama (1) - Hawaii

Ludvig Aberg (1) - Montana

Viktor Hovland (1) - Oklahoma
