Employees at one of Indiana's top casinos have walked off the job and onto the picket line. Scroll down for all the latest headlines from the world of gambling and sports as well as our top trending stories and searches.
The strike is taking place at the Horseshoe Casino in Indianapolis, a Caesars property.
More than 200 table game dealers have walked off the job.
Roughly 90% of the staff voted last week to authorize the strike, demanding that Caesars Entertainment, which owns the casino, recognize their push to unionize with Teamsters Local 135.
The strike follows months of organizing efforts and a delayed union vote.
Workers say a planned election through the National Labor Relations Board was postponed because of the recent federal government shutdown.
“We reached out to the company and requested to have a neutral third party run the same election process, and the company ignored our request,” said Teamsters Local 135 President Dustin Roach.
The casino is frequently one of the top-earning casinos in the state, typically coming in first or second in terms of monthly adjusted gross revenue.
In August 2024, The Horseshoe had revenue of about $25.2 million, placing it second behind Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in that month’s state’s casino earnings.
