iGaming in Indiana Takes Another Big Blow
It may be a while before iGaming comes to the great state of Indiana.
It was in late 2023 that Former Rep. Sean Eberhart, a Republican from Shelbyville, pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge: conspiracy to commit honest services fraud.
Federal prosecutors accused Eberhart of pushing Spectacle Entertainment’s desire to relocate two casinos through a 2019 bill, in exchange for a job paying upwards of $350,000 and an equity stake. Eberhart retired in 2022 after 16 years in office.
Also in 2023, a federal judge sentenced former Sen. Brent Waltz and former Rep. John Keeler — a casino executive — to prison for election finance schemes involving Spectacle predecessor New Centaur.
Now comes word that an iGaming bill in the Hoosier State is moving nowhere fast. Well, it's been stopped dead in its tracks.
House Speaker Todd Huston noted on Thursday the bill would not move forward after passing out of a Public Policy Committee.
The Indiana Capital Chronicle noted that Huston said there was no overall consensus on the bill among state lawmakers to move the document forward.
He cited worries about potential retail casino revenue cannibalization if iGaming was legal, which has been a common worry for iGaming opponents.
