The prediction market firm Kalshi just filed to list player props and spreads on a regulated exchange.  On Monday, Kalshi informed federal regulator the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of its newly launched event contracts.  The company is currently the only legal prediction market in the U.S.

Kalshi only offers moneyline wagering at the moment.  The company dipped its toe into sports betting earlier this year with staggering results that included nearly $62 million being wagered on this past Saturday's UFC 319.

Under the Trump Administration and chair Caroline Pham, the CFTC is widely considered to be much more friendly to event-based contracts than in prior years, reports Zak Thomas-Akoo of Next.io.

Player prop bets include such things as Over/Under number of touchdown a particular player will score as well as number of home runs in Major League Baseball.

Some states are looking to ban player props entirely.  Ohio regulators could ban all player props in the wake of a gambling scandal involving the Cleveland Guardians.  The Buckeye State already prohibits player prop bets in college sports and Kalshi will likely shy away from such an offering.
