MLB

These Hot MLB Betting Trends Are Through Sunday July 14

Dodgers @ Tigers - The Dodgers have lost seven of their last ten games, including four straight heading into Friday.  This is mostly due to injuries among their starting pitchers.  Detroit has won seven of their last ten games.  Tarik Skubal has been terrific all season for the Tigers and set a career-high in whiffs in his last start against the Reds.  He was the scheduled starter on Friday.

Guardians @ Rays - Cleveland is 7-3 in this series and have won half of their last ten overall.  Tampa also won half their last ten games.  For Friday's matchup, Tampa's Taj Bradley has a 1.76 ERA at home and has held six straight foes below three runs. Carlos Carrasco has a 5.68 road ERA.

Yankees @ Orioles - Baltimore is 6-2 in the last eight of this series. New York continues to struggle, winning just three of their last ten games while Baltimore has won just four.

Royals @ Red Sox - The Red Sox are playing especially well of late as the Royals have taken a bit of a step back in recent weeks. Boston is 6-2 in the series.

Rangers @ Astros - Houston is 4-1 in the series in the last five meetings. Both teams have had a spark of late following sluggish starts. Yordan Alvarez is 9 for 19 against Friday's starter for Texas, Andrew Heaney.  Jose Altuve is .326 with two home runs against him.  Heaney threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings and got a no-decision in the Rangers’ 4-3 victory over the Rays on Saturday and had a win prior to that. Hunter Brown has also had his troubles against these Rangers. Brown allowed seven runs with five strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Twins on Saturday but was near perfect in his prior start. In fact, he allowed a total of one run in the four starts before his last outing, striking out 27 batters.

Twins @ Giants - Minnesota has won 7 of their last 10 games overall.  They come to San Francisco with this Giants team having gone 3-5 over their last seven. Joe Ryan, starting for Minnesota, followed three straight no-decisions with a win his last start,  allowing three runs with eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings against the Astros on Saturday. Kyle Harrison allowed four runs in 3 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday.  He has not had a win since May 18. They are .311/.367/.516 with 12 doubles and 11 home runs in the last seven days and 219 at-bats. Harrison has allowed four or more runs in four of his last five starts.  The Twins bullpen has been solid as well, posting a 4-0 record with three saves, 3.23 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and a .168 batting average against (30.2 IP) so far this month.

Pete Rose: 'Gambling Scandal Cost Me $100 Million'

There is a new HBO Max documentary coming out July 24 that focuses on MLB icon Pete Rose.

"Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose", a four-part @HBO Original Documentary Series, chronicles the life and career of one of sports' most polarizing figures.

"You have to understand one thing, ladies and gentlemen," Rose said at a Q&A after the premiere of episode 1 of Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose, "gambling cost me a hundred million [dollars]. That’s what I’d have made in baseball if I hadn’t got suspended."

For some background, in 1989, Rose was managing the Cincinnati Reds when Major League Baseball investigated claims he had wagered bets on MLB games, including his own team's. Bart Giamatti, then-Baseball Commissioner, issued a lifetime ban from baseball on Rose.  Fast forward to today and Major League Baseball is now partnered with sportsbooks, advertises betting apps in most of its ball parks and sometimes promotes the activity during broadcasts, including mentions of odds.  Likewise, the league is now facing some new gambling scandals.

In the documentary written and directed by Mark Monroe, Rose continues his campaign to be reinstated in baseball.

"I’m the one that got hurt the most," he said at the premiere, held as part of the Uninterrupted Film Festival in Los Angeles. "Me gambling on baseball, I didn’t hurt you," Rose added, pointing to members of the audience. "I didn’t hurt her. I didn’t hurt you. I hurt myself and my family and I was stupid. But I’ve overcome it. I've overcome it."

AcePerHead Talks Being a Bookie in California

Is being a bookie in California illegal? Our friends at AcePerHead.com answer that question

Between 1992 and 2018, sports betting was completely banned across the US. It was prohibited by the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). Bettors could only wager on sports in Nevada or with illegal bookies.

However, the PASPA ruling on sports betting was stricken down on May 14, 2018. At this point, it was left to the states to determine whether or not to allow sports betting within their jurisdiction. Currently, 30 states have some form of legal sports betting.

"If you’ve been running your #sportsbook with a series of envelopes and cash, with your cell phone constantly ringing or buzzing, it is time to bring your clientele into the modern era," AcePerHead.com proclaims.

Harris Odds Slashed to +325 on News Biden Camp Assessing Her Chances vs. Trump

The Biden campaign is reportedly conducting internal assessments to gauge the viability of Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate against Donald Trump in the upcoming election.  NBC News was among the first to confirm these reports.  This move comes amid growing concerns within the campaign and among Biden's allies about his chances of winning. Several of Joe Biden's closest allies, including three people directly involved in re-election efforts, have expressed doubts about Biden's ability to recover from current challenges and have suggested that he should consider stepping aside. Polls show a tight race between Biden and Trump, with some indicating a slight lead for Harris over Trump in a hypothetical matchup.

BetOnline slashed her odds nearly in half over the last 12 hours on the news, from +700 to +325.  Biden, meanwhile, fell back down to +650.  Trump still sat favored at -185.
