Ronda Rousey Stops Gina Carano With an Armbar 17 Seconds Into Their Double Comeback Bout
Sunday May 17, 2026 (10:25 am EDT)
Rhonda Rousey stopped Gina Carano with her signature armbar just 17 seconds into the two iconic fighters’ double comeback bout Saturday night. After finishing the 44-year-old Carano with a ferocity that evoked her famous heyday, the 39-year-old Rousey reaffirmed that this was only the epilogue on her historic MMA career. She insists she is headed into retirement after ending on a dominant victory. “I was hoping to come out as unscathed as possible,” Rousey said. “I didn’t really want to hurt her. Luckily it was beautiful martial arts, that’s what I think that was. It was art.”

Poker Player Banned for Hit-and-Runs Sues London Casino
Sunday May 17, 2026 (10:25 am EDT)
A low-stakes poker player sought a six-figure judgment against a London casino over a hit-and-run ban, but ended up the party required to pay. The player in question, Dr Mortaza Sahibzada, as reported by The Independent, told the court he's an "expert in safe gambling" and was banned from Hippodrome Casino in September 2023 for "cashing out too fast" from poker cash games. Sahibzada claimed to have a winning strategy, which was to win a small amount — about £75 — and then to quit the game, even if he had just sat down at the table. This ultimately led to his permanent ban.

Napoleon Solo Holds Off Iron Honor by 1 1/4 Lengths to Win the Preakness at Laurel Park
Sunday May 17, 2026 (9:43 am EDT)
Napoleon Solo held off Iron Honor down the stretch to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, rebounding from a pair of fifth-place showings for his first victory of the year. He had come into Saturday's Preakness Stakes at 11-1 odds of winning. Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo was held out of the race. Taj Mahal was the top choice at 9-2 — the longest odds for a Preakness favorite since the race moved to its current distance of 1 3/16 miles in 1925. Second place finisher Iron Honor had been the morning line favorite at 9-2, but he was an 8-1 shot by the time the horses entered the starting gate. Chip Honcho, at 11-1 odds, finished 3rd.

Lake County Indiana Sheriff Scrutiny Grows Over Restaurant Ties to Massive Sports Betting Ring
Sunday May 17, 2026 (9:32 am EDT)
Board of Elections campaign finance records dating back to 2022 show Lake County, Indiana Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. spent more than $72,000 on fundraisers at a restaurant owned by the alleged ring leader of a sprawling sports betting ring alleged to have used intimidation to collect monies owed. The complaint claims the business was partially run out of two of the restaurants owned by the ring leader. 22 individuals appeared in court Thursday, each entering not guilty pleas. And it turns out Martinez Jr. is not new to controversies.
