Terry Rozier Fights Ruling to Forfeit Most of $26.6M Salary Due to Alleged Role in Gambling Scheme

The NBA has been granted the authority to withhold most of Terry Rozier’s $26.6 million salary due to his alleged role in an illegal betting plot, yet Rozier is fighting back. A motion filed Wednesday by Rozier’s attorney revealed the details of the previous arbitration ruling, as well as Rozier’s intention to change the conditions outlined for his release in his criminal case. Those conditions rendered him “in breach of his contractual obligation to play.” Different language could allow Rozier to fight that ruling in arbitration again and enter free agency this summer to secure a new contract, though it remains unclear whether any team would have interest in signing him. The investigation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the southern state of Telangana, uncovered an intricate web of 46 mule bank accounts operating across eight layers of transactions that allegedly moved player funds through multiple Indian states, according to a report by Indian public broadcaster NDTV. For the House NJ-02 Democrat primary, Zack Mullock was an 8/1 dog against Tim Alexander and Bayly Winder. In Iowa, the heavy favorite Josh Turek easily prevailed, and now he'll square off against Ashley Hinson for the U.S. Senate midterm in November. Turek is a -20000 favorite in that matchup, giving him a 99.5% change of victory. Meanwhile, the South Dakota Governor race will head to a runoff between Toby Doeden and Larry Rhoden.

Betfair High Court Case Involves Customer Suicide

Betfair will be appearing in court this week regarding a customer who died by suicide. Luke Ashton took his own life in April 2021 after having gambled extensively with the operator. Ashton’s widow, Annie, and family members filed the lawsuit against the Flutter Entertainment-owned company. Flutter Entertainment also owns one of the U.S. biggest regulated sports betting sites FanDuel. According to findings from the coroner’s inquest conducted in 2023, Ashton suffered from gambling addiction. An increase in his gambling habits was also observed before his death. However, Betfair had classified him internally as a low-risk gambler.
