How Do You Mentally Deal With Big Betting Losses in Sports Gambling?

A redditor this week asks the question:  How do you mentally deal with big sports betting losses?

This particular thread specifically involves wagering at Stake.com.  You can check out Gambling911.com's regularly updated review of Stake.com here.

I recently ran up to $30k all from a $200 depo in the span of 2 days and all it took was 30 minutes to lose it all. My bets stayed the same, I didn’t increase any but it somehow feels like someone turned the “win switch” off for me.

The past couple days I have been paying for stuff with cash since I don’t trust money in my bank because I’ll just deposit it. And when I buy something and there’s like 90 cents change I never take it. Even tho I could use all the money I could get.

Ironically, I also haven’t gambled the last few days since betting a dollar and winning $10 from it doesn’t even feel as exciting anymore. I fried my dopamine betting $100 on 10x multiplier and winning $1000 every few rolls.

At first I didn’t care because I’ve always went up and lost a lot of money but this was literally the biggest run I had by 5 times. And what hurts more is I DID try to withdraw but with fiat I can only do 5k every 24 hours (which I believe they put on purpose, scum) and before I wouldn’t withdraw so I could only be mad at myself.

It also hurts knowing I’ll never go on a run like that ever again probably and money just doesn’t feel the same if you know what I mean. $1000 feels like $100, $100 feels like $10.

How do you guys deal with this?

How to Be a Baseball Bookie

Just think about it, on average there are 162 regular MLB game per season. If a gambler bets $100 on one team per season with a 10% vig, you can earn $1,620 from them. Multiply that by the number of friends you have that follow baseball and it can become quite high.

Some of the responses:

"When you have experience like that, gambling is going to get so hard to quit and it's either you decide to deposit a large amount of money to feel that same high again and end up losing it, or you have to just suffer from the memories of those days where you were rich and in massive profit. I've ran up less than 100 dollar depos to 10k, 20k a few times now and trust me, it's really hard dealing with it. I can't get my mind off gambling and I can't even sleep well at nights. But oh well, that's how they get you."

"Been there countless times bro, many times with a much bigger run. Just gotta pretend you spent it on something else. In that situation, I'd just pretend I bought a car, didn't get insurance, rekt it while drunk and ran away. Lbs If it happened once, it can happen again. Next one could be bigger, or you could go broke before it happens, never know. Just don't do what I did and lose waaaay more than what I could afford to lose. It sucks, but you'll get over it with time."

"I’ve only had a Stake account for under 2 months. I’ve made a rule to only have fun with the GC and dollar a day. I know myself better than to deposit money into something like that with an expectation - I’d rather enjoy Vegas with friends.  The other week I actually ran a $5 balance up to $150 through Blackjack and dice rolls. Then did $1.50 spin slots and ran up to almost $600. I continued slots until it was all over…I wanted “one more hit” and it never came. Well a bonus round came once but it was weak I was already down to $200 so said fuck it.  I do regret it for the free win story and I could have totally got some cool toys with nearly $600. Another day perhaps; I got caught up in the crazy money hit not realizing how truly rare that is."
