One of the greatest marketing companies in any sector – not just the sports betting realm – Paddy Power has once more gained plenty of free press with their latest mischievous tactics.

This time the Irish-based betting firm erected signs outside Liverpool FC’s stadium ahead of their Tuesday matchup versus Chelsea that read:  "Advance warning: This road will be closed from 21.45 hrs Tuesday 31/01/2017 for Liverpool FC's end of season party."

Cruel?  You betcha!

PR Weekly writes:

Having exited the FA Cup this weekend with a shock defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Paddy Power is suggesting that by the time the game finishes (at around 9.45pm tomorrow night), Liverpool's hopes of a major trophy might also be effectively over.

A Paddy Power statement referencing the club's manager Jurgen Klopp, and the Kop area read:  "Liverpool have Kopped a lot of stick after a disastrous week, which effectively ended their season already.

"Is the Klopp ticking for their German manager? Surely not yet, but if he continues to not be his usual efficient self, he could be off down the Anfield road."

The bookmaking firm is not one to shy away from controversial shock marketing tactics.  In the past they have placed a “Paddy Power” confessional outside the Vatican and erected a Hollywood-like sign over a golf course ahead of tournament play.

As for Liverpool v Chelsea, the Reds were coming in as slight 8/5 favorites against the Blues 2/1.

Chelsea and Liverpool have both won two, drawn three, and lost two of their last seven meetings with one another.
