Draft Lottery

The graphic below, courtesy of BetOnline.ag, was generated using X data (tweets) and it identifies the Top 10 most popular NBA taking solutions.

The data was collected from February 12 (the day the NBA fined the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers for “violating player participation policies”) through February 17.

More than 375,000 tweets containing keywords and phrases about the different types of tanking solutions were analyzed in the study.

That’s an immense number in less than a week as the NBA fans/media are very active on social media and this is a hot-button issue.

As you can see from the graphic, the No. 1 solution suggested is to eliminate or restrict draft protections. It seems like every year there are multiple teams that just rest players or create mysterious injuries simply to protect their top 6, 8 or 10 draft pick.

Other popular solutions/suggestions were to restrict top 4 picks in consecutive seasons, losses of ping pong balls and freezing the draft lottery positions on March 1.
