The question of mental illness and gambling online we asked already in 2024. In CasinoTempen 2025, CasinoFeber once again ask Swedish players about mental illness, to be able to compare against the previous year's results and go even deeper into the subject.
Gambling addiction is classified as a disease condition of the National Board of Health and Welfare and research shows links between gambling addiction and mental illness.
The latest CasinoTempen 2025 survey found that:
• 21% of online casino players report having been diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point in their lives
• 19% of sports betting players report the same
• Female gamblers are more than twice as likely as male gamblers to report a diagnosis (29% vs 13%)
• The highest prevalence was found among women aged 18–26, where 34% reported a diagnosed mental health condition
If we compare the response results regarding the sums of casino and betting players play per month, we do not see any major differences. 7% more betting players who have at some point been diagnosed with mental illness play for sums between 199 SEK per month, 4% more people play for 100-199 SEK per month and 2% more players for 2 500-10 000 kr or more per month.
The findings are strongly reminiscent of the previous investigation we did on this issue in 2024.
