PA Sportsbooks Lose $6.5 Million on Super Bowl, NY Issues Correction

Per David Purdum of ESPN, the New York State Gaming Commission issued correction on Super Bowl figures, saying one sportsbook submitted inaccurate data.

N.Y. sportsbooks ultimately won a net $47.4 million.

New Yorkers wagered nearly $155 million on the Super Bowl, which included future bets on the big game.

New Yorkers bet $130.3 million on the game, not including future wagers. New Yorkers wagered slightly more than $129 million through their online apps.

Sportsbooks reported $47,429,762 in gross gaing revenue for the game alone. At the states 51% sports betting tax rate, this led to $24,183,151 in tax revenues.

It should come as no surprise that Pennsylvania sportsbooks lost big on this year's Super Bowl, courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles huge win.

Purdum also reported that Pennsylvania sports books suffered a net loss of $6.5 million on Super Bowl LIX. A record $101.5 million bet was bet on this year's game, representing a 20.4 percent bump over the prior record high from two years earlier.  A greater majority of bets were placed on the Eagles.

For ESPN Bet's Pennsylvania operation, 73 percent of the bets and 79 percent of the handle landed on the Eagles.
