New York Sues Prediction Market Kalshi Alleging ‘Illegal Gambling Operation’

Friday July 31, 2026 (9:34 am EDT)

New York officials sued prediction market platform Kalshi on Friday, calling it an “illegal, unlicensed gambling operation” as the state seeks to halt its operations and force the company to forfeit its profits. New York joins a growing number of states filing lawsuits against Kalshi and other companies in a dispute with President Donald Trump’s administration over who regulates the fast-growing prediction market. Kalshi and other platforms argue they are federally licensed and regulated, and states have no authority to govern them. “It’s sad to see this type of political theater from the leadership in our own state,” Elisabeth Diana, a spokesperson for New York-based Kalshi, said in a statement. “States can’t just shut down a federally licensed exchange. This would also hurt New Yorkers, who would be driven offshore. We love New York, we love New Yorkers, and New Yorkers love our product.”

New York Mets Become First MLB Team to Officially Partner With Prediction Market

Friday July 31, 2026 (9:14 am EDT)

Novig and the New York Mets announced on Thursday announced a multi-year partnership, making Novig the Exclusive Official Prediction Market Partner of the New York Mets. The agreement marks the first partnership between a Major League Baseball franchise and a prediction market, and reflects the Mets' continued commitment to introducing innovative fan engagement opportunities through emerging technologies like Novig's trading platform, customized with sports fans in mind.  Beginning this season, Novig will be integrated across the Mets ecosystem through a comprehensive portfolio of in-ballpark, broadcast, digital and social activations. Fans will see Novig featured through prominent Citi Field signage, branded in-game moments, broadcast-visible branding and original digital content that introduce a new generation of sports fans to regulated prediction markets. "We're proud to be the first Major League Baseball club to partner with a prediction market company, giving our fans a new and engaging way to connect with the game," said Lew Sherr, President of Business Operations for the New York Mets. "Innovation is a defining characteristic of our business, and this partnership is another example of our commitment to staying at the forefront of the evolving sports landscape. It reflects our broader goal of delivering unique experiences for our fans and continuing to attract industry-leading partners who want to grow alongside the Mets."

Mohamed Salah Next Club Markets Sizzle as Besiktas Move Falls Through

Mohamed Salah is back on Al Ittihad’s radar following failed Besiktas move.  Salah was among the most volatile markets at the prediction market sites Friday morning.  Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad has resumed work on a deal for Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool forward announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, ESPN reported.  Al Ittihad had a £150 million ($200 million) bid for Salah's services rejected by the Premier League club in September 2023, and is now set to revive its interest in the 33-year-old Egypt international. The club is looking for a marquee star to lead the team following Karim Benzema's move to Al Hilal in February.

Rocket Classic Tops Prediction Market Sport Contracts Friday Hit $117 Million in Trading

Friday July 31, 2026 (9:31 am EDT)

More than $93 million has been traded at Kalshi on this event prior to it kicking off.  More than $117 Million had been traded as of Friday morning.  Ryan Gerard had an 11% chance of winning the tournament at Kalshi as of Friday morning.  He sat near the top of the leaderboard.  Peter Malnati was on top of the leaderboard Friday morning with 3.1% backing at the prediction markets while traditional sportsbooks would have to fork over $100,000 for every $100 bet to whomever had him early should Malnati go on to win.  We'd caution everyone it is still way too early.

Federal Judge Rejects CFTC Bid to Stop Wisconsin Prediction Market Crackdown

Thursday July 30, 2026 (9:33 am EDT)

A federal judge on July 29 denied the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) request for a preliminary injunction to block Wisconsin from enforcing its gambling laws against prediction market platforms offering sports event contracts. The court found the agency unlikely to prove such contracts qualify as swaps under the Commodity Exchange Act. The ruling leaves Kalshi, Polymarket, Crypto.com, Robinhood, and Coinbase exposed to state enforcement despite their federal CFTC registration.  The ruling strips another federal shield from CFTC-registered platforms, forcing Kalshi and Polymarket to defend contracts market by market against state gambling charges.

Binance.US to File CFTC License Application for Prediction Markets — Exchange Aims to Challenge Kalshi and Polymarket

Thursday July 30, 2026 (9:27 am EDT)

Binance.US CEO Stephen Gregory announced the company’s intention to launch its own prediction market at the Rare Evo conference. A DCM license would allow Binance.US to offer clients event contracts–binary yes/no futures.  According to Gregory, the application will be filed in August 2026. It’s part of a broader strategy to revive the exchange, including fee reductions, market share growth, and market maker recruitment.
