Former Temple Basketball Player Reportedly Under Federal Probe in Point-Shaving Case

Hysier Miller has been linked to an FBI probe that started in March after unusual wagering on an Owls game was flagged.

On Thursday, ESPN reported that Miller was under federal investigation for alleged point-shaving, which is a deliberate effort to score fewer points in order to avoid covering the spread.

Miller was a guard for the Owls and was the team's leading scorer in 2023-24.  Miller transferred to Virginia Tech during the offseason for his senior year but never played before he was dismissed by the team on Oct. 23.

A source in the gambling space said at the time U.S. Integrity had been monitoring Temple games for a while.

U.S. Integrity and RealResponse in May 2023 launched a tipline for college athletes, coaches and support staff to anonymously report gambling-related issues in real time.

U.S. Integrity was involved in detecting the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball betting scandal last spring that led to the firing of coach Brad Bohannon.

Specifically, the company was paying special attention to a game between the UAB Blazers and Temple Thursday night resulting in UAB winning 100-72.

“We are aware they flagged it,” AAC men’s basketball director of communications Tom Fenstermaker says.

Ohio Fines DraftKings $425K for Violations Including College Prop Bets

Ohio has fined DraftKings $425,000 for two compliance violations, including accepting banned college player prop bets earlier this year.

In documentation provided to SBC Americas, the Commission wrote that it discovered that the operator had offered prop wagers on student athletes’ performances after the state’s ban on that type of wager came into effect on March 1 of this year. The bets were taken between March 14 and March 19.

In addition, DraftKings allowed players to fund their accounts through cash deposits at unapproved “non-gaming retail locations.” The Commission’s statement said that a total of 40,985 of those deposits were made, totaling more than $2.5 million, between January 2023 and March 2024.

Let the Crackdown Begin: Massachusetts Will Demand Data Backing Up Why Players Are Being Limited

Massachusetts regulators will finally take a stand against licensed sportsbooks intent on limiting winning gamblers.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) will now be seeking information concerning how and why players were limited following recent hearings on the matter.

The MGC will then consider possible regulations.

Professional sports gambler GadoonSpanky” Kyrollos applauded the move on Thursday.

"Slowly but surely state by state the predatory limiting practices will come to an end," Kyrollos tweeted out following the news.
