Rank Group Agrees to Hefty GC Settlement in UK Gambling Matter
Wednesday October 7, 2026 (8:54 am EDT)
The Rank Group has agreed to pay a £5 million (about US$6.7 million) regulatory settlement/payment in lieu of a financial penalty for both anti-money-laundering (AML) and social-responsibility/safer-gambling failures. Specifically, the company is said to have failed to update AML policies to reflect changes to money-laundering regulations while allowing inconsistent treatment of customers considered higher money-laundering risks. Rank also reportedly failed to enhance customer due diligence when their own policies required it.

GOP Pouring Money Into Reliably Red South Carolina Senate Race Ahead of Midterms: Latest Odds
Wednesday October 7, 2026 (8:54 am EDT)
A key Republican Super PAC is putting $5 million to support Sen. Darline Graham in the South Carolina Senate race, sources familiar with the investment confirmed on Tuesday, as President Trump is escalating his attacks against her opponent, Democrat Annie Andrews. The investment from the Senate Leadership Fund, the main Republican Super PAC, is a sign the party is concerned about the race, even though South Carolina is a solidly red state. President Trump won the state by 18 points in 2024 and Graham's late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, won by 10 points in 2020, despite having a well-funded opponent in Democrat Jamie Harrison. Winning South Carolina has been at best a distant dream for Democrats since the end of the 20th century. Darline Graham (R) is currently the -800 favorite to win here with Annie Andrews (D) paying out $550 for every $100 bet should there be an upset.

Kalshi Secures Federal Oversight Win Against Illinois Gambling Claims
Wednesday October 7, 2026 (8:54 am EDT)
Prediction market application Kalshi has won a federal court victory against Illinois state regulators after a judge ruled its wagering markets must be regulated as financial swaps under federal oversight. Illinois lawmakers had argued that Kalshi’s platform should be treated as gambling, which is subject to state regulation. The federal court ruling rejects state gambling oversight in favor of federal financial regulatory authority. Although the federal judge’s ruling places oversight at the federal level, the legal decision leaves open the possibility for state governments to impose taxes on transaction fees.
