The Return of Mazi Smith
"The GOAT is back!" proclaimed sports gambler Mazi Smith, who also celebrated making the pages of the New York Times a few months back.
Smith is no longer incarcerated.
Mazi — whose real name is reported to be Darnell Smith — was arrested in Clark County, Nevada in May 2025 and charged with multiple felony counts related to fraud and forged identity documents, according to reports.
Smith denies he stole any IDs.
"All jokes aside i went in for a not stealing nobody identity wouldnt have been home now if that was true," he tweeted over the weekend.
According to the Times report, the court documents indicate that Smith stood accused of possessing 14 different IDs.
One was a Utah identification card with the name Carson Marimon; 11 were from Arizona; one was a Romanian passport with the name Stanescu Ana-Maria. And the final ID? A Nevada driver’s license with the name Goated Mazi.
Under Nevada law, simple possession or use of a fake ID (e.g., just to gamble or drink) can be a misdemeanor with up to 6 months in jail.
Smith had not tweeted since May of this past year.
Mazi thanked his supporters. He has 9303 followers.
