Jets-Giants Super Bowl Odds Improve With More Shock Wins Over Weekend
The New York Giants odds to win the 2023 Super Bowl were coming in at 40-1 and the Jets at 60-1 after both teams enjoyed wins in Week 7.
Just a few weeks back, BetOnline offered odds on whether either team, or both, would finish above the .500 mark in 2022.
For the Giants, their win came with a Daniel Jones go-ahead touchdown with just 5:31 left to play versus Jacksonville.
Leading 17-13 and at the Giants' 20, Jacksonville went for a fourth-and-1 and came up short.
A defensive pass interference penalty in the end zone with just under two minutes remaining set the Giants up at the Jaguars' 1 before Jones punched it in on a sneak play. The Jaguars (2-5) got the ball back with 1:04 remaining but couldn't score.
The Giants are now 6-1.
"Good to get a win," Giants head coach Brian Daboll said. "Made it tougher than we needed to, but good to be 6-1."
Heading into this week, the Giants were only rated No. 23 on Sagarin. There was no movement from the week before.
"There were some good things we did," Daboll said. "I thought offense got off to a fast start, did a good job of converting 3rd downs, did a good enough job in the red zone, took care of the ball defensively, got the ball out there when they were going into the red zone, had a critical 4th down stop. At critical moments that was good, but we gave up too many yards, we didn't capitalize in the red zone. Didn't finish the game we should have finished the game. There're always things to clean up."
The New York Jets, meanwhile, managed a win in Denver as a -1.5 favorite by the weekend after opening as a +2.5 underdog.
Breece Hall ran for 72 yards and a score before leaving with a knee injury, Greg Zuerlein kicked three field goals. The Jets improved to 5-2.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said after the game he believed Hall's suffered an ACL injury. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Hall will undergo further testing to determine the extent of the injury.
Of the four dogs coming in at +3 to +2.5 without crossing above the number 3, the Giants were the only team to cover in Week 7. The Cardinals, Chiefs and Titans each came through with this particular trend.
The Jets fell within this trend to some extent before taking over favorite status by Saturday.
