Steve Asmussen-trained horses will typically have a leg up in the Kentucky Derby.  Despite never having won a Kentucky Derby, he has enjoyed success in Churchill Downs and his horses tend to run there prior to May’s big race.

Brody’s Cause at 10-1, Creator at 12-1 and Gun Runner, winner of the Louisiana Derby, also at 12-1 odds.

Brody’s Cause has run the most at Churchill Downs and performed well on the dirt track.  Creator had mixed results, though one was a victory.

Tom’s Ready has been especially impressive on the Churchill Downs track, winning his first race there and clocking 4 furlongs in 47 and change in a recent workout.  Best of all, Tom’s Ready was at long 60-1 odds early in the week.

There is also Mor Spirit, who on Monday zipped through 5 furlongs in 59.80 on the Churchill Downs dirt track.  He’s at 9-1 odds of winning the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Mo Tom at 28-1 odds has also had some success at Churchill Downs.
