TwinSpires does not take bets from those living in Texas. Have no fear, you're in luck. BetOnline (in business since 1999) welcomes those from the Lone Star State 18 and up without having to provide a social security number.
Why TwinSpires Won't Take Bets From Texas
It's complicated.
The state made its opinion known back in 2011.
The Texas Racing Commission sent out letters that year to various horse betting sites licensed in the US, TwinSpires included, making it clear that they could lose their licenses. International sites for the most part remained undaunted, mainly since they do not physically accept bets inside the United States. They also do not blatantly advertise in the state. TwinSpires features prominently during the Kentucky Derby broadcasts.
“The TRC's letter cautioned of “enforcement proceedings to impose penalties for violations.” In addition, the letter said the Texas comptroller “may examine the books, records, officers and employees of any company authorized or permitted to do business in Texas that is involved in pari-mutuel wagering.”
