Queen Elizabeth II’s Carlton House was only a slight favorite compared to Treasure Beach as of early Thursday morning.
Carlton House lost a shoe at the Investec Epsom Derby in the final furlough finishing third as the favorite.
Paddy Power did not hesitate instilling Carlton House as the favorite despite lack of confirmation that he would ultimately take part in the Irish Derby.
The bookmaker said: “The likelihood that he is going to take part in the Irish Derby is creating a buzz around the race I’ve never known before. I could see punters really getting stuck in and possibly even going off odds-on.”
Treasure Beach trainer Aidan O'Brien is looking for his sixth consecutive win at the Irish Derby on Sunday. Memphis Tennessee and Seville were also trained by O’Brien and came in with 8/1 and 6/1 odds, respectively.
O’Brien has said of Treasure Beach: "We knew there had to be something special about this horse, but when he stepped off that plane, it is hard to describe but there was an aura about him.
"His size and scope, he's all quality. He has an unbelievable presence. He's a different thoroughbred to what we have seen before in this part of the world."
There are nine contenders in this year’s Irish Derby sponsored by Dubai Duty Free.
All bets should be placed a few hours prior to post time.
