Collected is one of what should be a handful of shooters – a horse tht did not run the Kentucky Derby.
He won his last two races - Sunland Park Festival of Racing Stakes and the Grade III Lexington Stakes – and is trained be the highly regarded Bob Baffert, who already has six Preakness Stakes winners under his belt.
"It's going to be a step up for him," Baffert said of the Preakness. "He is fast, but there are a lot of fast horses in there. We feel like he deserves a chance. We never thought about the Derby with him, but he's the kind of horse that brings it every time."
Though starting his career on turf, Collected has made the transition to dirt smoothly with all five stakes this year taking place on been on dirt.
