This year’s favourite Nyquist is undefeated in seven starts and currently comes in at 3/1 odds.

Nyquist won the $1 million Florida Derby on April 2nd, and is currently just edging out Mohaymen.

Mohaymen had had a strong showing early in the year, winning the Holy Bull in January and the Fountain of Youth in February, making him the favourite in the race for the roses.

However, Mohaymen finished fourth in Florida as Nyquist ran away with top-prize. Currently at 8/1, Mohaymen looks a good offer to cause an upset and redeem himself.

Bred for longer distances, Exaggerator sits at 27/1. The colt made a big move up the board after winning the Santa Anita Derby on April 6th.

Exaggerator finished second to Nyquist in the San Vicente in February and offers a good price for a horse that has shown strong performances in the past.

Exaggerator’s stable mate, Swipe, clocks in at 20/1 odds. With only one win from seven starts, Swipe seems a reasonable bet, but a horse that probably won’t take the top spot at the Kentucky Derby. Swipe did finish second behind Nyquist in his last four stake’s races.

A wager for him to place may be a good option. However, as an outright winner may be wishful thinking.

Hall a fame trainer Bob Baffert is a four-time Kentucky Derby winner and his horse Mor Spirit sits at 11/1 odds currently. Finishing second behind Exaggerator at Santa Anita, Mor Spirit is expected to make a good showing at Churchill Downs.

An outside shot at taking the Kentucky Derby could be Gun Runner at 13/1 odds. However, he has been characterized as a horse that is too slow to win the big race.

Despite winning two derby preparation races in New Orleans, Gun Runner must be seen as a dark horse in 2016.

Lani rounds out a look at the top horses going into the 2016 Kentucky Derby. At 25/1 odds, Lani is a Japan-based racehorse.

Another horse that can be considered a longshot, Lani is already training at Churchill Downs. Melissa Hoppert of The New York Times has stated she believes Exaggerator is more talented than Lani, therefore, a punt on Lani could be a longshot.

Being based outside the US could be a detriment coming into the race.

In the end, Hoppert believes that at this year’s Kentucky Derby there is only one real horse that can win, that being Nyquist.

Perhaps the biggest challenge will be deciding which horse will finish second.

Now that you know which direction to steer your players in for the Kentucky Derby, head to PayPerHead.com and get in on that 2 for 1 deal!
