  •     Gate 19: Owen Almighty (44-1)
  •     Gate 20: Baeza (50-1)

Only Citizen Bull, Neoequos and Final Gambit hold on to their originally assigned post positions as all other contenders move up one.

American Promise now starts from what is considered the best post position in terms of wins.  No. 5 has produced ten winners since 1930 including Always Dreaming (2017), California Chrome (2014), and Silver Charm (1997).

Post positions No. 8 and No. 10, each have had 9 winners.  That's great news for Burnham Square while the favorite, Journalism, now starts at No. 7.  The most recent winner from the No. 7 position was Mandaloun in 2021 and there have been eight winners total from this starting spot, so Journalism doesn't see much of a negative impact.  Flying Mohawk starts from the No. 10 spot.

On the other end of the spectrum, Sovereignty gets the misfortune of starting from the No. 17 post position, which has never resulted in a Kentucky Derby winner.
