There are two horses representing Japan racing in the 2024 Kentucky Derby, and both are more than capable. TO Password pays out the most at $3500 for every $100 bet, but Forever Young looks like the horse that can get the job done at 8-1 odds for a payout of $800 on every $100 bet.
TO Password
TO Password was sired by Copano Rickey out of the King Kamehameha mare T O Rachel. This will be trainer Daisuke Takayanagi's first Kentucky Derby.
He's only raced twice, but both of those were wins.
Kazushi Kimura is the jockey for TO Password. He took his riding talents from Japan to North America, where he was honored this month with his third consecutive Sovereign Award as Canada’s champion jockey.
It's just a matter of time before a horse from Japan wins the Kentucky Derby but TO Password's lack of experience and poor post position of 9 (no horse has run here since 1972) have resulted in TO Password's high payout potential should he go on to win the Derby.
Forever Young
Forever Young was sired by Real Steel out of the Congrats mare Forever Darling. He was trained by Yoshito Yahagi and has raced for Susumu Fujita.
He has been sensational, winning all of his races. Four of those were stake races.
He broke from an unfavorable outside post and lost ground the entire way in the UAE Derby (G2) at Meydan on March 30 , but still pulled off the win.
The problem is no UAE Derby winner has gone on to be victorious in the Kentucky Derby. This could have something to do with what we all suffer with when traveling overseas, jet lag.
There are plenty of folks who believe Forever Young is the best horse to ever race in the Kentucky Derby from Japan.
