Why Bet on Mohaymen to Win This Year’s Kentucky Derby
There are many reasons to bet on Mohaymen to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Keep in mind he was the early favorite to win.
The reason he’s no longer favored (now at 10-1 at some online books), Mohaymen lost the Florida Derby. He didn’t just lose, he finished in 4th place.
That’s pretty much the only reason why many have begun to dismiss this once favored horse
"I understand that, as far as handicapping goes," McLaughlin said Tuesday morning at Churchill Downs. "We still have confidence in him. He only had a bad minute, 49 seconds in his whole life." Kiaran
McLaughlin claims the Florida Derby loss was a fluke, pointing to a very short run to the first turn, a wet track and recent transport to Gulfstream Park the same day as the race.
None of these elements will be an issue on Saturday. Mohaymen’s long been situated in Louisville and the track will be dry.
Something else though that is keeping his odds long, the unfavorable post position.
Mohaymen’s number 14 position has won only twice in 61 Derby starts, making for one of the lowest win percentages. The position has yielded zero winners since 1999.
