Successful iGB Affiliate Conference in Lisbon Wraps Up
Many online gambling affiliates that we know opted to skip on G2E this year in Vegas and instead head for Lisbon, Portugal.
This year's iGB Affiliate Conference has now wrapped up.
Topics tackled included the need to stay innovative in the face of ever-changing technology, regulation and competition.
“You need to be creative and come up with new methods of generating traffic.

You could be gathering more data and using more as an affiliate.
There I think operators can help by sharing data themselves. I would like it to be a combined effort.”@Oddsium's Krister Malm... pic.twitter.com/YyXADly2TD
Today's affiliates are not a one-man or one-woman show.
“Nowadays affiliates not just one guy in his bedroom. There are huge companies out there lobbying ahead of regulation and if we as operators work with affiliates we can make real progress”

Beatrice Varlam of @PaddyAffiliates at #iGBAffiliateLIS
“The affiliate needs to understand that they are an extended part of the marketing of the company.

You need to think about what type of customers the operator wants and it needs to be a long-term partnership.”
Krister Malm of @Oddsium
In some markets, saturation means more of a focus on maintaining customers than delivery.
“If you look at the UK as a mature market, how many new customers our there?

Operators want to keep their customers, so lead generation is not as important as elsewhere.
It’s about stickability.”

“In Brazil it’s not as saturated as Europe. It’s more like open waters. There’s chances to explore things like SEO that aren’t explored so much. For marketing agencies, affiliates and operators, the options are vast.”
In recent years overzealous regulation has proven to be one of the industry's biggest obstacles.
“Even regulators don’t really understand the affiliate industry and what they consider a small tweak may be devastating to the affiliate world.”

“In international regions we sometimes rely on affiliates to keep us up to date because they’re experts.
— iGB Affiliate (@iGBAffiliate) October 18, 2019
We try to join forces and prepare for the regulation so that when it kicks in we’re already compliant.”
Beatrice Varlam, @PaddyAffiliates @Betfair pic.twitter.com/lI1LfyFmvO
“If operators adopt zero tolerance for non-compliance you have to be compliant."
— iGB Affiliate (@iGBAffiliate) October 18, 2019
“In the wider world patience with the gambling industry is short and it will be with affiliates as well.
Change is coming and it won’t be good I’m afraid.”

“If you do something wrong as an affiliate, that can create big problems for operators, they can even lose their license and who would want to be responsible for that?”

Affiliates have to know that every market they work in has different regulation and they have to work with it. Everybody has to know what they have to do and what’s expected.” 2/2 pic.twitter.com/KgiUAsiAfu
