Tencent Makes Offer to Buy Majority Stake in Ubisoft

Tencent Holdings Ltd (0700.HK) plans to raise its stake in French video game group Ubisoft Entertainment SA (UBIP.PA), the maker of the blockbuster "Assassin's Creed" video game franchise, as the Chinese gaming giant pivots to the global gaming market, four sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

China's largest social network and gaming firm currently owns a 5% share in Ubisoft and has expressed interest in boosting that share.

The request was made this past Thursday with Ubisoft shares closing up 11% by day's end, after having risen as much as 21% earlier after the Reuters report in their biggest daily rise since 2004.
